Review: Science Lessons and Investigations - Grade 2

Previously, we checked out Science Lessons and Investigations - Grade 1. We also got Grade 2 at the same time. This curriculum is by Evan-Moor and just like with grade 1 I would not consider this a complete curriculum. It can supplement what you are doing or be a fun way to get experiments in but definitely not to use as your sole science curriculum. This booklet goes over plants, animals, earth science and physical science. What I do like about this book is that there is a materials needed page that you can copy and give out for your students to take home. So, if you teach a co-op or at a public school your students will know what to bring for each experiments. There is also a journal page so your students can write their thoughts about the experiments they are doing. Each lesson has a teacher overview, vocabulary page, reading and work over the reading. Some lessons will have a page to answer wonder why questions, others have experiment/investigation pages. The end of every lesson is a project for the child to complete.


Just like with the grade 1 booklet I also tore out the pages and staple them into a booklet so that our daughter can keep them to reference whenever she needs. I have looked over each lesson to see what it teaches. With grade 1 I felt it was more geared towards kindergarten since we had gone over everything when we did kinder. Grade 2 booklet I feel is better suited for 1st grade. Most of the work in these lessons we have already gone over during our 1st grade year. You could use these as a review to see what your child has remembered from the previous year. I have actually decided that we could each lesson as an open speech assignment. That way she can use the knowledge learned and get some practice with public speaking. Since we do not do a co-op I either video her speeches or have her give them in front of family members or friends.



I would recommend these as a supplement to whatever curriculum you are using now. They do provide a lot of information. However, I would suggest that you use them with the previous grade that they are intended for. Having your child present what they have learned is a great way for them to learn how to public speak and give them some confidence. The one thing I do not like about this booklet is that they are in black and white. It makes some of the pictures difficult to see. I also feel if the book was in color then it would be a bit more fun and engaging. WDo you have any supplement curriculum for any other subject that you like?  We have finished All About Reading Level 4 ! I am so glad that we started using this program from All About Learning Press. It is hands-down the best if you want to teach anyone to read. This last level goes over the rare teams, unexpected phonic sounds, and words that are borrowed from other languages. The break down of each lesson is amazing not only for the teacher but the student as well. The games incorporated make it really intriguing for the student. I absolutely love the little readers that come with each level. The lessons are perfectly spaced out so that it isn't too much at one time. I love the way the teacher's manual is done. Review: Sensory Tissue Box

We have been trying out a lot of new baby items this year and here is another one we did not have for our first daughter. It is called  Sensory Tissue Box . What makes this toy so much fun? Let's be honest babies love to get into things. We have tried before to let her play with a regular box of tissues. Big mess. The tissues were everywhere and they have like 250 tissues in a box, she torn them up to so an even bigger mess. Our daughter even went as far as to rip the box itself up. This sensory tissue box though is made of very soft fabric so she can not tear it up, it has 15 tissues so less to keep track of and the tissue can not be easily torn up either. This is the biggest positive of this sensory box in my opinion. Another positive to having this sensory tissue box instead of a regular one is that the tissues are different colors and sizes as well as having different textures to them. Review: Djeco Pompom Pictures - All Aboard

Djeco Pompom  is a super cute and easy art craft for toddlers. They just put the pompoms on the corresponding dots. I like that it comes with all the pompoms you need. However, the glue stick they give you doesn’t make the pompoms sticks to the board. I tried regular glue and that didn’t work either so I ended up having to use a hot glue gun. So, I suggest having hot glue if you get this. There are small circles on the boards to let you know what color pompom goes where so it’s pretty self-explanatory. The kit does come with a small manual that it done with pictures so even your little one can look at the manual and understand which pompoms go on which board.
