Review: Me: A Compendium

This is such a cute all about me book. I love that Me: A Compendium has a hardcover book as well so the cover will not get bent. The beginning page has a dedication section. This is so cute! After your child finishes this book they can dedicate it to someone and give it to them as a gift. How adorable! There is a lot of drawing, coloring and writing in this art book. It has pages for things your child likes the most, does not like, favorites, etc. Foods, feelings, weather, where they live, holidays, etc. are all covered in this all about me book. Some pages are a bit more interactive. There is a pages that says how many steps from my room to the front door and another has them see how many jumping jacks they can do before getting tried. This is so cute. There were some harder ones for us like what team you cheer for. Since we are not into sport we picked like when we play on teams or her in gymnastics. I love that they have a about page for when your child was a baby. They have a ...

Review: Have I Got A Story For You!

We got an opportunity to check out Have I Got A Story For You! I had never heard of this company before but the videos are by HiGasfy. We are reviewing their renaissance curriculum. I went with this one because in history this year that the time period we are going over. This curriculum has 12 videos you download, a lesson plan, flashcards and a PowerPoint. Downloading the files was a bit annoying because every zip file was missing one of the files so I had to go back to the download link and download them individually. The lesson plans have different ideas of what you can do after you watch the episodes. There are a lot of different ideas so that you can incorporate the videos into other subjects that you teach. The other activities that you can do include art, writing, science and geography. There is a list vocabulary words and even critical thinking questions. I love that critical thinking is in there so that kids have to really think about the questions versus just giving a blanke...

Tips & Tricks: Art Class

I have seen that art is another class some people have trouble with as far as what they should be doing. For us it is about the same as PE. I do not use a set curriculum as I just do not see the need for one. You can do art class as cheaply as possible or you do always have the option to outsource to an art tutor/teacher or having your child take a class outside of your regular homeschooling like what we do with gymnastics. Art much like PE you do not need to push. If your child does not want to take an art class I would not force them, too. Here are some of the things that we do: Painting: paint, brushes and paper; we also get canvases Coloring: crayons and paper Cutting and Gluing: kid scissors, glue and paper Drawing: pencils, markers, colored pencils and paper Sculpting: molding clay and maybe some molding tools; you can use Playdoh even although we prefer to use Mad Mattr Art kits: we have reviewed a ton in the past since our daughter loves art Art places: there are many of those...

Review: Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh

This is the last of the new art kits we got. It is called  Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh  and produced by Djeco who we have got a lot of art kits from in the past. This one is similar to the previous scratch and reveal kits we have done. As with all Djeco kits the manual is in all color and done entirely in pictures so it is super easy for young children to follow. You will get the scratching pencil and 4 scratch projects to do. Each one inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's work. You will get a scene of flowers, boats, trees and a house. The manual will show your child which areas need to be fully scratched and which ones will need to have a design scratched into them. Some of these can be overwhelming for younger children since you do have to do a lot of scratching. There are some things that I do if our daughter seems to be getting overwhelmed or bored during art projects like this. I normally give her a choice of what she would like to do. Either she can scratch it throughout the ...

Review: Animals & Their Homes Multi-Activity Box

This is our newest Djeco kit called  Animals & Their Homes Multi-Activity Box . Arts and crafts are always super fun and this kit has 6 different projects to work on. All the supplies you will need come in the box except for a pencil that you will need for one of them. The projects your child will get to complete are coloring, gluing, sticker, cutting, transfer and building. The manual of course is all done in pictures so easy for your child to figure out on their own. I love this because then our daughter can do them on her own if I need to tend our youngest or get some housework done. However, we normally do arts and crafts together. It is really fun and great bonding time. First, we did 1 of the 2 coloring projects. Both are cats. You color it with the 3 double sided crayons then add the stickers. The crayons are a great size for young kids whose hands are still growing. Second, we did the gluing kit. This one only has one to do. As I have mentioned in my other reviews of Dj...

What I Have Been Up To?

I have been hard at work crocheting various things. I got a bit behind on the crochet schedule I made for this year since I had an order to do. I do not keep all the items I sell on hand. For the majority of the time when I get an order I have to make the items unless you order from what I have in stock. This order was a custom order and one that takes a bit of time to make. But I have finished quite a bit of crochet items this year. I still have a lot of crochet I want to get done but I am going to take a break from that and work on my cross stitch and embroidery. These are the sets I have finished this year. All of these patterns are by  AradiyaToys . And of course all of these items are in stock and available for purchase.

Review: Djeco Fish Rainbow Colored and Glitter Craft

If you have read before you will know we live Djeco. We have used a bunch of their kits. However, this  Glitter Kit  was definitely not one of my favorites. It is fun and the projects turn out very pretty but it is a mess. You get glitter, a stick to remove the stickers and 4 projects to do. You remove all of the stickers of one number than pour the glitter. There is a little hole in the box so you can pour the glitter back into their containers… ya this was a mess. Some of the glitter doesn’t come out of the box. Sometimes the glitter doesn’t pour out right and it got all over everywhere.  Since not all the glitter comes out of the box it ends up getting mixed with the previous colors. This does add a cool effect to the next time you use the glitter but I wish it came off of the box easier. We have done two of these projects so far and are out of the pink glitter in the tube. This is highly disappointing since we’ll need it for the last two projects. Luckily, I have spar...

Review: Deep in the Jungle Mosaics

Art! Art! Art! We love art class. WThis time we went with  Deep in the Jungle Mosaics . It is another Djeco kit since our daughter has really enjoyed the other Djeco kits that we have gotten from Timberdoodle. We have done a mosaic arts and craft be Djeco before so our daughter knew exactly what to do with this one. Do not fret though. If your child has never done one before it will be still be easy for them to do this art kit. Djeco’s manuals are easy ti follow. It is entirely done in pictures and then you do what the pictures show. Very easy and very simple for a young child to do on their own. If you have read some of my other reviews the. You know that I like things that our daughter can do on her own. That way she can be occupied if I need to get some housework done or have to tend to little sis.  Deep in the Jungle Mosaics has 4 projects like the other Djeco kits we have done. And as always I wish they had more than 4 since our daughter loves doing arts and crafts....

Review: Natural World Workshop

A lot of people say that you can never have to many books. This is true but it is also true for art supplies and kits! Our daughters favorite subject in homeschool is art. This time we got the  Natural World Workshop  kit. It is another art kit made by Djeco. It is a water color painting arts and crafts. What I love about Djeco kits is that the manuals are super easy to follow. Everything is shown step by step on how you are supposed to do the art kit. It is perfect for kids as they can just look at the pictures in the manual and complete the craft on their own. They do not need to read anything so it is no problem to do even if your child does not know how to read yet. I love that I can get out daughter set up with a Djeco kit and get some work done while she is having fun and being productive. Natural World Workshop has 4 projects to do and as always I do wish to at it had more. The 4 boards are absolutely adorable! There is an under the sea, a desert oasis, a rainfore...

Review: At Night Scratch Cards

We got At Night Scratch Cards  since we have liked all the other Djeco art kits we have used before. I got it with my Timberdoodle points. This kit has 4 cards, a manual and a scratching stick. Now, I thought that these cards were like the previous ones where you scratch and it reveals a picture. Sadly, that was not the case so our first go turned out pretty awful. It turns out that you need to scratch the cards in a design that you like. The manual goes through what parts you need to scratch for the design. However, I let our daughter scratch wherever and whatever to make her own designs. That way she can be as creative as she likes. I do enjoy things where she can use her own ideas and personality. It makes each art piece completely unique.  The cards do have a very pretty starter design. There is an owl, cat, fox and butterfly. Like with the other Djeco kits I wish there was more projects to do. Something that is very cool about this art kit is that the cards glo...

Review: Doodle Washington D.C.

Art meets history. I have never been to D.C. and our daughter has not been there either so most of what the book has we know nothing of. Never the less it does not hinder the learning in anyway. When I do not know of a monument or whatever it is I look it up and then explain it in a way that our daughter can easily understand. Some of the pages in the book are very simple. All the student needs to do is simply draw what is asked or copy a piece of US history. Since our daughter loves to draw she quite enjoys this book. If you are looking for something to enhance your history or art class then this would be a wonderful little book to get.
