Tips & Tricks: Burnout

Recently, I have seen a lot of post on FaceBook asking what to do when you or your child is burnt out from school. Do you continue and push though the boredom, frustration or tears? I have some ideas on how to combat this burnout. I would suggest to implement these ideas when you start to see your child getting a bit bored or can tell when they are getting a little frustrated. We do not really have burnout because I regularly do the things suggested. You can choose to not do school for a couple days. Just have some free time.  We do a lot of games while at school. They are all educational games but fun for kids.  Take school somewhere else. We have done school in the bed, outside, at the beach, etc.  have your child pick what items they do. By this I do not mean that if your child does not want to do math then you don’t do it. I mean I sometimes let our daughter pick what order we do our work in. We still do every subject that was planned for that day.  Do a science ...

Review: Haba Palette of Pegs

Now that we have two kiddos I’m always looking for a way for them to play together. As a homeschool teacher I also want their activities to be educational.  Haba Palette of Pegs  hits both the check boxes. What is really great about this “game” is that they can learn many different things with one activity. Matching colors, counting, motor skills, etc. This is also something where my oldest can really get into being a big sister by helping or trying to teach little sis things. They get lots of fine motor skills while trying to place the colorful circles on the cylinder pegs. While placing the matching circles they learn some of their colors. And by doing these “game” together the girls learn sharing, taking turns and great to bond over something both fun and educational. All of these make this activity game worth it. I have to often remind my oldest to let little sis do things on her own so that she learns but then that can become a lesson for her. Things that I can use ...

Review: Dimpl Duo

This item is called  Dimpl Duo . One side has colors and the other is shapes. What is really cool is above the names the words are in Braille. I have not come across any other toys that have Braille so it was nice to see that they have options like that. The size of the game is perfect for tiny hands and is a great educational item to use at home, in the car or at places where your little ones would get bored like the doctors. The colors are the same on the front and back so with colors you can ask for both; find the red circle. The shape it goes over are circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond and oval. The only thing about the shapes that I do not like is that they have diamond where as we call it a rhombus but that is fine. I love that the colors chosen are the colors of the rainbow. My daughter thinks is super fun and told me it’s like a tablet. Then she proceeded to go around saying it was her table; “I’m going to watch yellow!”. Since they have to push in the bub...

Review: Big Book of Things to Spot

We love search and find!  Big Book of Things to Spot  is an amazing book that comes in Timberdoodle’s Preschool Kit. This book has so many different things to find and is colorful. What I like is that it works counting skills, object recognition and we can talk about what’s going on in the pictures. We are able to take the book with us so we can play with it when we go out. Because smaller kids often find the same picture more than once I’ve thought of a new way to use the book. I tore a sheet protector open and place it over the 2 page spread then we can circle the images with an Expo. I have found it to be very useful and makes it even more fun for my daughter. She especially likes the different environments to find things in the books.
