Homeschool: 1st Grade Unboxing

As I was getting ready to do our end of year thoughts on 1st grade I realized that I never made an unboxing post. So here it is now super late. We used Timberdoodle Elite 1st Grade kit. I love that I do not have to piece together our curriculum they have done it for us yet I can still customize the kit to exactly what I want. For English we got All About Reading, All About SpellingDaily 6-Trait and Imagidice. My goals for the end of the year with these items were just that our daughter had a better understanding of reading, learned some spelling and was able to write in sentences.

For math we had Math-U-See, wrap-ups addition and subtraction as well as Mobi Kids. With math I just wanted our daughter to be able to work through problems that she did all year. These included addition, subtraction, solving for the unknown and some clock work. For our thinking skills class I got a few items Critical & CreativeminiLUK set A/BSmart CookiesWhat's New? What's Missing? What's Different? and Postman Observation Game. With our critical thinking my hopes are always that her skills will get better.

Science class we kept with Building Blocks which came with a lab kit. I just wanted her to be able to retain the information that was in the textbook. History we used Story of the WorldFamous FiguresSkill Sharpeners and World Scrunch Map. Just like with science for history I wanted her to be able to retain the stuff that we went over for history and to be able to use a map correctly.

The extra things we got for art and STEM were RobotisPlus-PlusDo ArtCosmo FoilAquarellum and Doodle Washington D.C.. With both of these classes I do not have a goal for our daughter I just want her to have fun with these classes. I also got the Test Prep so that I could test her at the end of the year however I did notice that it was not as complex at what she had done during the year. We did get extra stuff throughout the year but these are the things that came in our curriculum kit.

Review: Geoboards

A fun way to help kids get great hand-eye coordination isn’t with  Geoboards . I love that with these there are 4 boards included so you can use it with multiple students. The rubber bands are different colors and 2 different sizes. The pictures are fun, colorful and you get a bunch of them. My daughter really likes these. For some reason she thinks it’s so funny when the bands pop her. At first I just let her place the bands anywhere to get the idea of how to put them on. Then we started places them just on the white lines in the picture. She always wants to do more than one so I let her do as many pictures as she wants. I do wish there was a blanket picture so she could design her own things.
